Leandro Pisano is a curator, writer and independent researcher interested in the intersections between art, sound and technoculture. His specific area of research is the political ecology of rural, marginal and remote territories.

He is the founder and director of the Interferenze new arts festival (2003-) and is frequently involved in electronic and sound art projects, including Mediaterrae Vol.1 (2007), Barsento Mediascape (2013) and Liminaria (2014-). Among the sound art exhibitions he has curated are “Otros sonidos, otros paisajes” (MACRO Museum – Rome, Italy, 2017), “Alteridades de lo invisible” (Festival Tsonami, Valparaíso, Chile, 2018), “Manifesto of Rural Futurism” (Italian Cultural Institute of Melbourne, Australia, 2019) and “Energies in the Rural” (ACAC Aomori Contemporary Art Centre, Japan, 2023).

He has given presentations, lectures and workshops in various parts of the world, in academic venues, independent institutions or at events related to new media aesthetics, sound, urban and rural regeneration processes.

He has written articles for various magazines such as Corriere della Sera – La Lettura, Blow-Up, Doppiozero, Neural, Exibart and Nero Magazine. He is the author of the book “Nuove geografie del suono. Spazi e territori nell’epoca postdigitale”, published in Milan by Meltemi (2017).

Leandro Pisano holds a PhD in Cultural and Postcolonial Studies of the Anglophone World from the University ‘L’Orientale’ of Naples and is currently an Honorary Scientific Fellow in Anglo-American Culture at the University ‘Carlo Bo’ of Urbino. He is an affiliated member of The Sound Art and Auditory Culture lab (SAAC) at the School of Art of RMIT – Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, an external member of the Paesaggi Sonori research group of the Department of Education and Learning of SUPSI – University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland and a member of the Scientific Committee of Usmaradio – Interdepartmental Research Centre for Radio Broadcasting of the University of the Republic of San Marino.

A former lecturer at the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples, he was an Honorary Scientific Fellow in Latin Didactics at the University “Federico II” of Naples, where he graduated with honours in Classical Literature, focusing his studies on digital philology, electronic didactics and the relationship between new media and classical disciplines.
